Benji's French Basque Restaurant

My favorite spot for tasty Basque food. Fell in love with this place from the 1st taste. The staff was very friendly and kind.

Who knew that Bakersfield would have such a good basque restaurants and we were fortunate enough to dine in the best one. Benji's was a very pleasant surprise indeed. Fantastic French Basque cuisine. We had a lovely dinner of veal scaloppini and lamb chops. The meal was rather large because it came complete with vegetable soup, fresh green salad with vinaigrette, marinated tomato & onion salad, sauteed green beans, crispy french fries and tongue with a creamy sauce. Everything was delicious and servings were very very generous. We ordered our souffle at the same time we ordered our dinner. The chocolate souffle was very decadent. We definitely would want to come back here again even though it is 90 miles away from home. What a great dining experience. Great food, good service and lovely atmosphere all in one place.

Basque food and the atmosphere at this location is great. i love this place so much. there was quick, helpful, and friendly service. this place has an awesome feel to it.

Basque food at this spot - excellent. don't worry if it's busy, it is worth the wait. i had a cousin come into town and she asked me to go back here. food and atmosphere reminds me of kansas city.

I kind of felt the whole thing was a version of Basque cuisine and lacked imagination. I would stop here again just for a nice meal with fresh ingredients. It beats eating at a chain restaurant with formula entrees.

Delicious food from the soup, the salad, the cow tongue to rack of lamb! Pleasant family style restaurant with a friendly staff and great food!

The steak was perfect and the peppercorn sauce amazing. The bread was slightly stale, salad, corn, soup, and beans were all top notch. My only complaint is the whole check system was old hand written style which makes it very difficult for splitting checks. The server Rebecca was absolutely pleasant, I would definitely come back.

We came to this place for lunch. my friend recommended this restaurant. Well, it was very successful. The crew welcomed us with a smile and we felt good. The meal was tasty. We loved this place very much and we will definitely return to this restaurant. Warmly recommended.

Basque food and service here is better than most. I like it here, great food & service. I've had nothing but great experiences here and will keep coming back. This place has a great feel to it. Feeling here is similar to a cafe in San Jose I liked.

Although I have never had Basque before, it was delicious. We ate family style. I actually ate more than I normally do it was so good. Lol. The restroom was clean. Restaurant was graded A.

What a wonderful family run restaurant. I love this place! The meals are fantastic every time and the service is just as great.All the Basque restaurants in Bakersfield are very good but Benji's is special. Just go there to find out why I say that.

I go to this marvelous restaurant every couple of days because I enjoy the good air that is part of this restaurant. The staff is very welcoming and skilfull. The service is awfully fast. Not to mention, the food you eat is good. I came more than once and I was always delighted. The rate is honest. I highly recommend this place to all my friends.

I met a man I loved dearly at this restaurant. We did not notice much but did feel the chairs and tables were to close to each other. Food was fabulous. Great place to enjoy time with family friends and loved ones. Good choice Rick.

The soup is excellent and adding beans and hot sauce makes it outstanding. The bread is wonderful. I love their tongue. The fries are perfect. It is served family style, so you have to share. We didn't get any tomatoes, so we had to ask. That is usually one of the regulars. It is really great.

My first time dinning & it was to celebrate a Dear Man's 80th Birthday. The Food, Service & Atmospher were all outstanding. It was a Great evening & we never wanted for a thing. Best Service ever! I'll be Back!

This is a must stop for us when we drive through Bakersfield, for lunch or dinner. The quality of the food and the service were always kept high. We like particularly the orange duck and the lamp chops. The plate of pickled beef tongue is my favorite!

Haven't had great Basque food since Reno / Gardnerville. This is such a great find. And...great Picon Punches as well. 💕😊

Everything in the set up was good except the tongue. I have tasted better. I had the trip tip which was good. I also ordered a vodka tonic that was not good.

A top place for tasty basque food. Got there about three, it wasn't crowded. The staff was very kind and attentive. The bill was good for what you get. Kinda of like a restaurant in Los Angeles I liked to visit.

The food here is outstanding and priced very good. I try to stop here whenever traveling through Bakersfield. The breaded veal cutlet is amazing.

Great place! It was my first time having Basque food and it did not disappoint. It's a little pricey, but you get TONS of food. The sheep tongue was delicious. I ordered the frog legs. They were super tasty too. Definitely would recommend this place.

The reviews don't equate to the kitchen's interpretations. Sweetbreads and sauce extremely disappointing. The careless sausage sandwich was tossed into a togo box. There's no heart in this Basque country. Not like the one I experienced as a child growing up in San Francisco. So very sad.😓

The restaurant is superb and roomy, the menu was delightful and the prices were very inexpensive. fast, productive service and very amiable staff. I highly recommend this place.

My top place for quality Basque food. Entered near nine, it wasn't busy. Really nothing but good experiences here. Prices were average for the menu. Food is like a place in Baltimore I liked.

Delicious comfort food a la Basque. Excellent food, service that is always pleasant and personable. Save room for a souffle, and be sure to make a reservation. Oh, oh and those cocktails.

Best meal I've had all year. Rack of lamb is by far the best thing on the menu , in my opinion. Super excellent service and waitress was especially nice. Many Basque restaurants in town but this is my favorite. I highly recommend this restaurant

Good food. Interesting atmosphere. Pretty good service. Prices are reasonable.

If you've done other Basque restaurants you'll have a pretty good idea what to expect. Good food in what could a big version of grandma's house. 20 year old cafeteria tables and chairs some including Rips remind me of a party room at a pizza joint. Over that white linen and a clear plastic table cover. Again, if tou knows what your getting into this place is okay but a $30+ entree in a ripped chair may not impress a date. Staff is really good and friendly.

Love the French infused everything (sauce). One of our favorite places to eat. The pickled tongue is delicious, but my go to are the garlic lamb chops and Veal.

I'd give them 5 stars, but I took off a star for the place being shorthanded on a Sunday lunch, this is very uncool. The sole waitress was running around on afterburners since 90% of the tables were occupied, I felt bad for the young lady!

Very good service from Erika and the food was delicious. Loved the beans,soup, slab of blue cheese and calamari with lemon caper sauce.

We love Benjis. The food is delicious and we are foodies. Everything on the menu is great. The service is excellent. The owner comes to visit and checks on every guest. Can't race enough. I would give it 6 stars if I could

Awful experience! This is family style dining? When we sat down for a reunion dinner at 5:30 we were told that we were expected to clear the table no later than 7:00 since they had already booked another party for our table!? If you put your fork down to take a drink you had to guard it, or be prepared to rescue it as the wait staff would zip by and try to clear the table so they could rush you to the next course. Three times my husband had to rescue his soup bowl. We were close to finished ar 7;00 when the waitress came up and told us they had other guests waiting and we needed to leave....... It was rude and absurd. I'll never go backto Benjis.
